Another day, another iPad 5 rumor.
The iPad 5 will apparently feature newly developed touchscreen technology to make it thinner and lighter.
The 9.7-inch model will apparently use the same G/F2 (DITO) thin-film type touch screen structure as the iPad Mini, according to font of all leaks, DigiTimes.
The site goes on to say the supply chain for the iPad 5 will be the same as the iPad Mini’s too, with Japanese company Nitto providing the materials and Nissha Printing touch screen modules.
Taiwanese TPK will laminate the tablet, while LG and Sharp will be responsible for the panel production.
The part providers are expected to provide 4-5 million units a month in 2013, which will hopefully mean the dvice won’t be held up due to supply issues.
The iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 are rumored to arrive together this year. The iPad 5 is apparently codenamed J72 and wil arrive with a faster processor too.
The back panel of the rumored iPad 5 leaked a couple of days ago and certainly looks like a huge iPad Mini one. 9to5mac reported:
“While we cannot confirm that the above image is legitimate, it does provide a solid representation of what Apple’s next iPad will likely look like. We were told this is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display. We were also told that the casing is almost as thin as the iPad mini’s back (pictured to the right). As you can see at the top of the purported iPad 5 backplate, this casing would likely be for an LTE model – as the black antenna cut implies.”
The iPad 5 will of course feature 4G connectivity, but little else has been revealed and nothing of course, concrete.
We’ll keep you updated with all the latest iPad 5 rumors though and we’re sure there will be a fair few to talk about before the release date itself.
